Hans Robert Eisenhauer
As commissioning editor for ZDF-ARTE, Deputy Programme Director and Head of Theme Evenings for ARTE, Hans Robert’s more than 60 theatrical length commissions for TV and Cinema since 1992 include Oscar and Sundance awards among other recognitions. Hans Robert has also served as director of the Berlin Film Fund and he is a member of the European Film Academy, which he helped to create in 1988. He is currently running Ventana-Film GmbH., his recent German-Syrian coproduction “Return to Homs” had it’s world premiere at IDFA 2013 and received the Grand Jury Prize for the best international documentary film at the Sundance Film-festival 2014.
Born in Finland, Pasanen has been a regular expert, tutor and lecturer for several training programs as EDN, Discovery Campus, EURODOC and Television Business School. She’s an EURODOC graduate and a member of the international advisory committee of Hot Docs. She’s also been a member of the board of IDFA Forum, INPUT and the Bonnier’s Journalistic Award in Finland and served as a jury member for several international festivals, among others Sundance and IDFA. Since May 2011 she became the director of Finnagora, the Finnish Institute in Budapest, Hungary
He acquired a degree as a film and television director from the Academy of Drama and Film University Budapest in 1984 under the supervision of Zoltán Fábry. Has worked as an independent director, script writer, consultant, actor, producer and was the manager of Béla Balázs Studio between 1984-88. He is also a professor at several Universities (Department of Film History and Film Theory at ELTE; Budapest Collage of Communication, Business and Art, Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest; University of Drama, Television and Film)
He is an associate professor at ELTE BTK MMI, Film Studies Department, Budapest. Born in 1961, he took his degree as a teacher of Hungarian Language & Literature and History in 1986 and in Aesthetics in 1990. He defended his Ph.D. in 2002, and habilitated in 2008. He was editor and a member of the editorial staff of periodicals (e.g. Filmvilág, Filmkultúra, Metropolis, Filmtett). He has written five monographs, more than 200 essays, critics and articles in different magazines; wrote items in two film lexicons and edited several books on film as a topic. He received the Béla Balázs Prize in 2007.
Anna Fignár recieved her Bachelor of Science in Film theory and history at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. During her studies she did an internship at Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art and at the Budapest Film Company. Since 2012, Anna has been organising Kinoflow, a popular indie filmclub in Budapest. She currently continues her Master’s in Film at ELTE University and works as an assistant director.
Born in 1960, she lived in Holland for many years where she worked in the audiovisual industry. From 1997 to 2002 she worked as Commissioning Editor in the cultural department of TVP2 at Polish Television where she dealt with co-productions for the European Cultural Channel ARTE. Under her editorship many documentary films, international debate panels and TV broadcasts were made and broadcasted in Poland and Europe. Dorota is the main producer at Arkana Studio and she also heads the Academy of Documentary Arts www.academyofdoc.eu organizing the international trainings and Dragon Forum pitching at the Krakow Film Festival.
Peter Kerekes studied film directing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava where he continued to lecture on the given subject. Together with director Dušan Hanák, he participated in founding the atelier of fiction and documentary film. Though he wanted to direct fiction films, since his first documentary about the Slovak poet Erik Groch, his interest in this form of film expression prevailed. His latest feature-length documentary Ako sa varia dejiny/ Cooking History was awarded at numerous international festivals (e.g. Hot Docs, Leipzig) and nominated for the prestigious European Award Arte 2009.
Documentary filmmaker and film activist. He started his professional career in the field of ethnographic and anthropological cinema. During his studies in Cultural Anthropology and Video-communication in Budapest he directed both short and feature length documentaries that were presented at several international festivals. After his graduation, besides continuing working as a director, he also took part in the foundation of Palantír Film Visual Anthropological Foundation. Having been its president since 2002, he launched the Strangers in My Garden Film Collection project, DocuArt Film Centre and Dialektus - European Documentary and Anthropological Film Festival, Budapest.
Teréz Vincze is an assistant professor at the Department of Film Studies of ELTE University, Budapest. She has been editor of Metropolis (Quarterly Journal on Film History and Film Theory) since 1999, and editor-in-chief between 2003 and 2009. She is also a member of the Hungarian Film Critics’ Association and The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI).
Krisztina Meggyes first met filmmaking in Denmark and then she enrolled Television Production at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest. It was obvious from the very beginning that she is attached to documentary films so she continued her studies in the Documentary Film Directing Master’s degree. Since then she worked in many documentaries and short films. Recently she codirected a documentary series for Spektrum TV. Her film Day 791 won the short film section of the Budapest Documentary Film Festival in 2014.
Elizabeth Wood is the Founder and Director of DocHouse, an organisation dedicated to the promotion of excellence in documentary. DocHouse produces a year round showcase of International Documentary Screenings, Events and Festivals at cinemas across London. In education she has designed documentary courses in collaboration with The Tate Modern, The London Film School, Film London, the BBC and the National Film and Television School and hosted 12 ‘Best of British’ - DocHouse Masterclasses in the cinema sponsored by the Grierson Trust.
Paul has 30 years experience in the audiovisual world. During the larger part of his career he has combined production and teaching/tutoring. Between 2007 and 2011 he was the director of the “European television and media management academy” in Strasbourg, France. From March 2012 until May 2013 he was managing director and later (from September 2012 onward) manager/owner/producer of Congoo bvba. In May 2013 he became the director of the European Documentary Network. He is now based in Copenhagen and Brussels.
Péter Forgács (born 1950) is a media artist and independent filmmaker based in Budapest. He is best known for his “Private Hungary” series of award winning films based on home movies from the 1930s and 1960s, which document ordinary lives that were soon to be ruptured by an extraordinary historical trauma that occurs off screen. He has received several international festival awards in Budapest, Lisbon, Marseilles, San Francisco International Film Festival the Documentary Golden Gate Award 1998, Tribeca Film Festival 2005; at the Prix Europa, Berlin, received the European TV Documentary of the Year Award 1997. Forgács received the 2007 Erasmus Prize.
Balázs Varga is an Assistant Professor of Film Studies at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. He writes and lectures on modern and contemporary Hungarian cinema, contemporary European cinema and documentaries. He is a founding editor of Metropolis, a scholarly journal on film theory and history. His ongoing research project deals with the post-communist Hungarian film industry and the changing cultural significance of Hungarian cinema.
Dorottya Zurbó is a recent graduate from the first edition of Documentary Film Directing Master’s, DocNomads, for which she was awarded full scholarship. She also graduated with honors Film Theory and History at ELTE, Budapest. Her films have been recognized as label films in DocNomads and have won several awards including best documentary direction in the 60th Hungarian Independent Film Festival 2014. Her films have been screened in many festivals in the past and are being screened at Astra Film Festival, Balinale and Doclisboa.
Irena acts as CEO & founder of Taskovski Films Ltd. London and Berlin based world sales and Production Company of independent documentary and fiction films. She also works as external coach and consulting expert on promotion, marketing and festival strategies for number of institutions and companies, among others HBO Europe. Oana Giurgiu has extensive experience as a producer of films, TV programs, music videos and events. Currently she is the executive director of Transilvania International Film Festival (Cluj-Napoca, 13th edition in 2014) and Full Moon horror and fantasy Film Festival (Biertan, 3rd edition in 2014). Lately she returned to documentary filmmaking by directing “ALIYAH DADA” (aka FROM ROMANIA TO ZION), developed at Archidoc 2010 (La femis – workshop) which will have a premiere at Astra Film Festival, Sibiu 2014.
I was born in Budapest, in 1973. I graduated from University of Miskolc in 2006 as a Cultural and Visual Anthropologist. My love for documentaries started there. I made some documentaries about various subcultures of Budapest. In the last 10 years I’ve been working on the propagation of the genre. I participated in several festivals such as Dialektus, Verzió and Cinefest. I organized the ELTE ‘ If you want to understand the world’ documentary festival. Currently I am the program director of Budoku - Budapest Documentary Festival.
Film-editor, post-production supervisor, head of film editing at Budapest Film Academy, tutor for ESoDoc and Verzio DocLab. Feature films like Bánk bán with the academy award winner Vilmos Zsigmond d.o.p., the Mr. Bean Cartoon series for Tiger Aspects London, commercials for worldwide leading brands and agencies, short films, music videos and documentaries are on his long credit list. Through joining each project at a very early stage he co-creates the workflow and concept of the production together with the director and d.o.p to guarantee a smooth editing and post-production process.
I am in my second year at the University of Applied Sciences (BKF) in Budapest, on the course of Film and Media Studies. Besides my interest in feature and documentary directing, I have musical and literary ambitions as well.
